Waiting Room Socks

I’ve been having some minor-to-medium health stuff going on for a few weeks now, which is why I’ve been taking it easy and getting so much knitting done. Today I am driving for three hours and then sitting in a waiting room for a good long time so I’m taking a project I could probably knit in my sleep with me.

These are more Gentleman’s Fancy Socks from Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush. They were the first sock pattern I ever knit using actual sock-weight yarn, and they remain a favorite because of their simplicity and utility. I love how stretchy they are, with so much ribbing going on, but they’re much more interesting than just plain ribbed socks.

The yarn is Dream in Color Knitosophy Laugh, which has been discontinued now. It’s really just the Smooshy base but it’s been flash dyed to give a more random and overall effect. I wasn’t really feeling this yarn in the skein but now that I’m knitting it up I love it – there’s much more purple in there than I thought and the socks seem to glow. I also love that I haven’t gotten any major pooling or flashing yet, though of course I expect some to show up around the gusset.

All in all, these and some headphones should keep me nice and busy in the waiting room today, and there’s nothing like knitting to calm the nerves!

I like these a lot. When I bring knitting to doc appts I never mind the waiting rooms (which, at some doc offices can be quite the long wait indeed).
